Autumn is a magical time at Inveresk. The plants are beginning to display their full autumn colours. These include; Acer, Sorbus and Euonymus, along with a bountiful harvest of fruits in the Orchard, and the many berries on the trees. There is also colour to be had with some of the late flowering herbaceous plants that are in the garden. There is much wildlife activity to be seen during this period as the animals hurriedly go about preparing for the coming Winter. Goldfinches arrive to feast on the seedheads, Tawny Owls can be heard, and if you?re lucky, be seen in the evenings. WINTER: With much of the garden asleep in Winter, it is a good time to take stock of the year gone by and start planning for the next, although not all is asleep. There are stirrings underground as winter flowering plants and bulbs start to wake up. Snowdrops, Daffodils, Aconites, Hellebores and many winter flowering shrubs fill the senses with scent and colour. A magical time in the garden, peaceful and quiet, ideal for escaping the frenetic festive season!
